German-Australian Cooperation on Green Iron Workshop, Düsseldorf, June 2026

In partnership with DECHEMA and the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the H2/renewables focus group held a roundtable on the potential for partnership in green iron and steel. We were pleased to have about 20 industry experts gathered in Düsseldorf at the Steel Institute to discuss collaboration in decarbonizing the iron and steel industry on 24 June 2026. After Business Council member, Mike Grant’s keynote address showing some mindboggling figures, attendees gathered in two groups to discuss challenges, opportunities and, potential solutions from the perspectives of technology, infrastructure & logistics, finance and regulation. The meeting was held under Chatham House Rule, to allow for a frank and open discussion.

This event will be followed by a second roundtable in Australia in Q3 2026. Proceedings from both roundtables will be summarized in a white paper to be presented to both the German and Australian governments. DECHEMA received funding for the project from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy under the Trans4Real Project.
