Australian Ambassador to Germany
H.E. Natasha Smith is the Australian Ambassador to Germany.
Her career in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and previously the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), spans over 30 years and includes a broad range of policy, program and corporate roles, in Australia and overseas.
She has led corporate teams (budget, human resources and security) and helped deliver major change
management processes (on the DFAT-AusAID integration task force). Her skills and experience have been demonstrated in both multilateral and bilateral fora.
Ambassador Smith led the Multilateral Development and Finance Division, and most recently led the Multilateral Policy, First Nations and Human Rights Division. She also served at Australia’s Mission to the UN in New York.
Bilaterally, she has been Australia’s High Commissioner to Canada, headed the Pakistan and Afghanistan Branch, was posted to Jakarta and was deeply involved in the early stages of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI).

Kelly Matthews
Consul-General, Trade and Investment Commissioner, Frankfurt
Kelly Matthews is Consul-General and Trade and Investment Commissioner based in Frankfurt, Germany. Kelly commenced this role in 2024, and is responsible for leading a team of investment professionals to facilitate productive foreign direct investment into Australia.
Previously she was Trade and Investment Commissioner based in Abu Dhabi where she advanced the Australian government’s education, defence industry and space sector commercial agenda across the Middle East, Pakistan and Africa.
She has also supported Australian businesses to achieve commercial success in Trade Commissioner roles in China and Malaysia.
Kelly brings a range of experience and depth of understanding of international markets to this role with over twenty-five years in the Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio. She has represented Australia in diplomatic roles in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Europe.
Kelly holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Griffith University and a Master of Arts (International Relations and Trade) from Monash University.
